  Military Weapons of 2025
MILNET reported on this data at the time -- what was available at least.
MILNET is constantly answering emails on the topic of future weapons systems and usually our answers focus generally on a particular system, not wanting to become a source for information that could be used by America's enemies in even a small part.
Given that nearly a decade has passed and that many programs are well underway or have been rejected due to budget constraints, there is little danger today in looking at certain areas within the "over-the-horizon" thinking of those fine officers.

MILNET - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In computer networking, MILNET was the name given to the part of the ARPANET internetwork designated for unclassified United States Department of Defense traffic.
MILNET was split off from the ARPANET in 1983: the ARPANET remained in service for the academic research community, but direct connectivity between the networks was severed for security reasons.
During the 1980s the MILNET expanded to become the Defense Data Network, a worldwide set of military networks running at different security levels.

In addition, all currently registered MILNET and ARPANET hosts will undergo hostname changes so that they are also part of such an established domain.
All new MILNET hosts must be registered under one of these second-level domains as a node at the third level or below in the hierarchical domain naming tree.
The general rule for an organization to be a second-level domain in the MIL domain is that it be a distinct service (Army, Air Force, etc.), a unified or specified command (SAC, ADCOM, etc.), or a separate operating agency which does not report through service chains (DCA, DMA, NSA, etc.).

Some users will have several legitimate accounts, in which case the "primary" host will probably be the one on which they receive electronic mail, or the one which they themselves identify as their "home" host.
If users do have multiple accounts on more than one MILNET host, and if each Host Administrator fills in a template for every user on his or her host, the NIC may well receive multiple templates for some users.

Therefore, all administrators of hosts moving behind gateways MUST coordinate with the administrator of their gateway/concentrator and with the DDN NIC Registrar to arrange the re-registration of their TAC users BEFORE the host on which they are currently registered is disconnected.

Once the networks are separated all MILNET hosts will continue to exchange electronic mail with the ARPANET, and those MILNET hosts which require full internet communications with the ARPANET including file transfer and terminal access will be provided those services via mail bridges installed by the DCA.
Four such bridges are being installed between the MILNET and the ARPANET to ensure that approved MILNET hosts have full communications services with the ARPANET where required.
MILNET hosts whose requirements dictate a more restricted operational environment may, at their request, be placed in a separate, closed community of interest.
