Almost all of the MIMAROPA provinces managed an increase in their total local government income in 2004 except for Palawan whose total income was reduced by 4.0 percent.
The number of elected women increased by 13.9 percent in 2004, this was attributed to the larger number of women mayors (180.0 percent), vice mayors (81.8 percent), provincial board members (66.7 percent) and councilors (5.1 percent).

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna -- After recent attacks of the New People's Army in different parts of the country, the Mimaropa Regional Police Office (MRPO) said it was training its new recruits in NPA-infested areas in the region.
Mimaropa police director Senior Superintendent Alejandro Lapinid said in a phone interview that they are not taking any chances after NPA rebels raided an army detachment in Samar.
The police director added that they are working with the Philippine Army's 204th Brigade based in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro in gathering intelligence reports on the presence of the armed leftist group.

Genio said GolifardoÂ’s dismissal, which had been pending for some time, was due to his involvement in the killing of a Maximo Palces and the wounding of his companion in Puerto Princesa last March 1, 2002.
Golifardo, 38, assigned to the 412th police provincial mobile group in Palawan, was identified by four witnesses as one of two armed men who allegedly gunned down Batul while he was on his way to work on Monday.

The governors of the two Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan (MIMAROPA) have appealed to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to hold the "Balikatan" exercises in the MIMAROPA region to be hosted by the province of Occidental Mindoro.
In a resolution dated March 5, 2003, the MIMAROPA governors said the holding of the Balikatan exercises in their region would minimize if not totally eradicate the peace and order problem in the area and reduce the threats and dangers posted by unwanted groups to the region and to the country as whole.
Defensor noted the case of long-time settlers in Sitio Masagana in Bicutan, Taguig who are entitled to their land but have to contend now with occupants who only settled in the area after 1992, the cut-off year set by the government.

MIMAROPA, also known as Region IV-B, is a region of the Philippines located in Luzon.
The region was created on May 17, 2002, as was Region IV-A (CALABARZON), after Region IV (Southern Tagalog) was divided.
After the reassignment of Palawan to Region VI on June 5, 2005, MIMAROPA could be remerged with Region IV-A to form Region IV, or the former Southern Tagalog region.

The name is an acronym that stands for its provinces, which are: Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon (also Palawan, since transferred to another region).
The region was created by Executive Order No. 103, dated May 17, 2002, as was Region IV-A (CALABARZON), after Region IV (Southern Tagalog) was divided.
Quezon City (the former regional center of Southern Tagalog]) remains the regional center of the MIMAROPA region.
