MLdonkey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is also the name of the peer-to-peer overlay network that the MLdonkey uses.
Development proceeds at a rapid rate, and the MLdonkey team was the second to crack the encrypted FastTrack network protocol.
Written in the Ocaml programming language and licensed under the GPL, the application strictly separates the user interface (which can be a web browser, telnet, or a third-party GUI application) and the code that interacts with the peer-to-peer networks.

MLdonkey runs as a daemon on your computer and is controllable via a web interface or a remote GUI.

infoAnarchy || A Look at mldonkey 2.0   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
It is available in precompiled binaries for Linux, FreeBSD and Apple's OS X. Functionality-wise, not too much seems to have changed since our last review: the application is still separated into a "core" that handles file transfers and a client (graphical, text-mode, browser or whatever) that connects to it.
In the precompiled versions of mldonkey 2.0, these features have been disabled, though, as uploading is not yet supported for any other network and the developers do not want to encourage leeching.
I have found mldonkey 2.0 to be vastly more stable and pleasant to use than its predecessor.

mldonkey is an open source client for the eDonkey2K network that has been around for some time, but we have never given it the attention it deserves.
Hi, I use mldonkey on my linux firewall wich is up 24h/day (the poor uptime is due to a kernel upgrade) It runs under Pentium 180 / 64 Mo RAM with Debian sid.
What I called the "BUFFER OVERFLOW" problem is the fact that mldonkey tries to send too much information to the GUI, and that, when it detects there is no space available in the buffer for the GUI (yes, the check is done before writting), it decides to kill the connection to the GUI.

MLDonkey will not stop you, indeed cannot, for the source is available for anyone to change.
For this to work, however, MLDonkey will have to be configured to listen on one of your machine's accessable IP addresses.

There is no Dana, only Zuul. Now there's not even Zuul.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
During one period of very active MLDonkey development, the telnet protocol was changing very often, and the Zuul devs decided that they'd had enough and weren't going to try and keep up with the somewhat arbitrary changes to the telnet protocol.
The main MLDonkey devs don't seem to have adding support for these kinds of things into the core, most likely simply because they've got other things to work on and the new opcodes required would be of no benefit to them.
While it would be a little disheartening to throw away all the work that we did on getting the binary protocol to work, an XML interface would take care of all of the problems that we have been having.
