	JURIST - Forum: Heeding MLK's Call to Action
		MLK had been invited by Nkrumah with the hope that a meeting would happen between MLK and then-Vice President Nixon.
		MLK should be remembered not only as an actor on the domestic stage but as a prophet on the international plane even in the 1950’s, preaching for social and economic justice.
		And MLK makes me say that it is simply unacceptable to have an Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary that is structured to keep women and minorities down.

		MLK Blvd. honors a man who was an important figure in fl history and a hero.
		Before becoming named MLK Blvd., "Santa Barbara Avenue was named in 1881, symbolic of a young woman who was said to be put to death by her father for becoming a Christian" (Townsend, 1983, B1).

		I though it would be interesting to do some sort of book, a photo book, on the subject of this “legacy.” In 2000 we moved to New Orleans, where I had many, many occasions to drive up and down the length of Martin Luther King, day and night.
		Anyway, by that time I had decided that it might be smarter to create a web site, and turn “MLK Blvd” into a sort of “open source” journalism project — interested parties could send in their own photos, or histories, or interviews, or documents.
		Late that year we moved to Jersey City, and by chance I got wind of a showing of a documentary called MLK Boulevard, which later aired on the Times Discovery Channel.

	MLK Classic
		The MLK Classic is the major scholarship fundraiser for NOBMA, consisting of high school basketball games in conjunction with Libbey High School.
		The games are played annually on MLK Day each year and have paid for nearly all of NOBMA’s scholarships since 1997.
		The plan is to have the Classic become a major event on MLK Day and something the community can look forward to annually.

	MLK Week
		The keynote address at this year's MLK Memorial Service will be delivered by Julian Bond, Chairman of the Board of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
		The MLK Memorial Service will be held in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, 1156 East 59th Street on Monday, January 15 from noon to 1:00 pm followed by a reception from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 East 59th Street.

		We then have a discussion how people feel when they are left out and how MLK wanted everyone to get along etc.
		I read a book about MLK, Jr., then we discuss how he impacted the lives of many people back then, and still today.
		An easy and fun activity to promote peace is to cut out a peace dove on white construction paper and let your children collage it with a variety of materials...I did this with my three and a half year olds and they loved it..we followed up by reading a book about MLK.

		I knew this was the Marade – the annual MLK Denver parade that despite the horrible cold had gathered 1,200 attendees.
		Since it was lunchtime, I ran outside and ended up walking down with part of the Marade and took many photos with my cell phone, which you will never see because I don’t use Internet on my phone and therefore cannot transfer them to a computer.
		It was such a good feeling to see people marching on MLK day.
