The MLS Scoring Champion Award is an association football award given out by Major League Soccer in the United States.
This award was handed out to the player with the most points in the regular season and was created in 1996.
The award was discontinued in 2005 and replaced by the MLS Golden Boot.

NEW YORK (October 16, 2005) - With the conclusion of the MLS regular season on Sunday, New England Revolution forward Taylor Twellman claimed the Budweiser Golden Boot, awarded to the leading goal scorer during the MLS regular season.
Since coming to MLS at the start of the 2002 season, the 25-year old Twellman has scored more goals than any other player in the League during that span, tallying 64 goals in 98 career regular season games.
In a move to bring MLS in line with other leagues around the world, in 2005 the Budweiser Golden Boot replaced the Budweiser Scoring Champion - an award in place since the League's inception in 1996 which used a combination of goals scored (two points) and assists (one point) to determine the League's top scorer.

Before New England's Taylor Twellman won the first Golden Boot award in 2005 after scoring 17 goals to edge D.C. United's Jaime Moreno by one goal, the Budweiser Scoring Champion didn't necessarily lead the league in goals.
The same thing happened to John in 1998 when he scored 26 goals and Diallo in 2000 when he struck 26 times, as they were beaten out by D.C. United's Marco Etcheverry (10 goals, 19 assists) and Kansas City's Tony Meola (league-record 16 shutouts), respectively.
