	Asheron's Call Forums - Suggetion for Server MOTD
		I am suggesting, now that the servers are under Turbines control that the server MOTD be changed a week or so prior to any scheduled downtime to allow any of these average players to be well informed of the downtime before it actually happens.
		I could be wrong on this, but I believe Ibn has said (link here) that changing the MOTD requires a server restart, which makes it fairly useless for announcing planned downtime.
		Bear in mind that the whole launcher/login thing is being redone this summer for the transition away from the Zone.

		Is there a way to reload the motd with out restarting the server?
		I want to change the motd with out restarting the server and have people be able to see the changes.
		I wrote a stats program that re-writes the motd.txt file when i run the stats update, then when i log in to play the new motd file is there with the updated top 20 stats on it, so i don't think reloading is necessary

		I recently put an important announcement in my MUSH's @motd, then I thought: When a player logs in, the description of the room she's in is going to push the @motd off the screen.
		Also, if no MOTD is set it will omit the asterisk line.
		Combined with a @startup me=@motd to automatically set the MOTD again after a reboot, I've found this to be a good solution for me.

		One possibility is that motd is run from /etc/profile and.profile in your home directory.
		I've looked at motd's man page now, and I see that /etc/motd is displayed by login "after a successful login but just before it executes the login shell."
		Hmm, what happens if you do a "grep -r motd /*" or something along those lines to see if there's a config or startup file somewhere that might be calling it.

		The permissions on the file were correct before you changed them (if you are running Solaris).
