		Both Options of the MPhil in Economics are rigorous, intensive and demanding, with a strong emphasis on technical analysis and the ability to analyse and solve formal economic models.
		For a PhD student, Option B of the MPhil in Economics is the foundation year of a period of training lasting a minimum of three and an average of four years.

	MPhil in International Finance
		The MPhil in International Finance and Economic Policy brings together economic and financial perspectives by drawing from the expertise of two departments which already have well developed postgraduate programmes within their own fields.
		The MPhil in International Finance and Economic Policy is offered on the basis of a one-year full-time programme of study, consisting of two terms of coursework followed by a project or dissertation.

		Applications for admission to the MPhil and the conditions of enrolment are subject to approval by the Postgraduate Studies Committee under delegated authority of the Academic Board.

		It is a lesser degree than the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), greater than (or sometimes equal to) the Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil,) and in some instances may be awarded as a substitute for a PhD thesis which is a marginal fail.

		For an MPhil you need to offer a careful and critical investigation and evaluation of an approved topic, and demonstrate an understanding of the research methods appropriate to your chosen field.
