ARAWA was built for Shaw, Saville and Albion by Wm.Denny of Dumbarton in 1884.
Returned to her owners she was renamed ARAWA again and was put up for sale and purchased by Elder Dempster and Co. but immediately taken over by the British government and used as a transport in the Boer War.
The ARAWA was built by Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson, Wallsend-on-Tyne in 1907 for Shaw Savill and Albion Co Ltd and was constructed specially for the frozen meat trade and with passenger accommodation for 220 in three classes.

Ms Morrison, a research co-ordinator for the Maori and Psychology Research Unit at Waikato's Psychology Department, also believes that there needs to be a cultural and socio-economic perspective provided when reading statistical information about Maori women's gambling behaviour.
Ms Morrison's research found that gambling was very much an activity to which Maori women had been socialised into as children and they unconsciously socialised their own children.
Ms Morrison's ultimate aim is to work with Maori women and their whanau to identify possible intervention strategies to raise the women's awareness of gambling to help reduce any damaging effects of new forms of gambling on their whanau.

Both Ms Te Ratana, (Tuhoe), and Mr Taepa, (Te Arawa, Te Atiawa), are tutors in the four-year Mäori Visual Arts programme, a course they hold close to their hearts.
Both Ms Te Ratana and Mr Taepa have family working towards their Masters in Mäori Visual Arts, a programme heavy in theory and incorporating compulsory papers in te reo Mäori.
Ms Te Ratana sold a painting, one of a triptych, and Mr Taepa exhibited a Heke Iho series, a commentary of the transmigration of traditional Mäori patterns and its increasing prevalence on clothing and coffee mugs.

The decision to accept was made by the Te Arawa Maori Trust Board and its negotiators after receiving a letter from Minister of Treaty Negotiations Margaret Wilson and the Office of Treaty Settlements on Thursday.
The vesting of the lakebed titles meant that Te Arawa would be the owners of the lakebeds and have certain 'ownership rights' and a say over matters relating to the lakes, the negotiators said.
Part of accepting the offer meant that Te Arawa had to guarantee the public the right to use and access the lakes and that the interests of commercial users and structures would be protected.

Very detailed reports were presented by Ms McHugh, on the Te Ngae church mission block, and by Mr Alexander on other matters relating to Ngati Rangiteaorere lands, including lands taken for roading and for survey costs.
The Crown's witnesses presented their evidence as they found it, openly acknowledging fault where the evidence indicated it and ensuring that the tribunal had before it all relevant evidence that could be located.

The Eight Beating Hearts of Te Arawa brings together eight individual tourism operators from throughout the Rotorua region, combining the different experiences to form three packages – high-end, mainstream and adventure.
The concept was launched at the 2004 Kiwi Link UK and Netherlands trade training event with the support of the Poutama Trust and walked away with the award for the best presentation, as judged by British and Dutch travel agents.
Some of the experiences in the packages are mainstream activities like white-water rafting, or bungy, but they all incorporate a Maori cultural segment, and they all add to the overall story we are telling our visitors.
