MT75 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The MT75 is a rear wheel drive gearbox made by the Ford Motor Company.
Used in the Sierra and Granada, it came in various flavours for each engine and was used in two wheel drive and four wheel drive versions (four wheel drive in the 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth and XR4x4).
Due to its light alloy case and robust internals, this gearbox proved a popular choice with Ford who continued to produce the MT75 in front wheel drive form (MTX75) for models such as the Mondeo, Escort MK5 RS2000, Focus and other popular front wheel drive models.

With either setup I'd at most have to tap the MT75 bolt holes and grind clearance for the starter.
I would guesstimate that the overall cost wouldn't be all that different in the long run, and pretty reliable and consistant too.
I'm guessing the Supra box would be heavier than an MT75, which would be a downside in your lightened car.

PH: New DOHC engine for Mk 1 Transit
The MT75 box is already in the transit together with a pinto adaptor plate and a 2litre pinto (the pinto and deisel engined mk2/3 transits I believe had the same gearbox - ie large bellhousing).
If I used the original sierra MT75 gearbox I was going to try and modify the external gear lever linkage only, to crank forward and up instead of to the rear as on the sierra.
The Mk3 version of the transit got the MT75 at approx 89 "G" plate and yes both petrol and diesel had the same bell housings but the engines used adaptor plates to get the starters in different places amongst other reasons.

The adaptor plate that Robin hood do is for the MT75 with the narrow (3.5") gap between the holes at the top, but they think this only came on the Scorpio Diesel, not sure if I can get one of these and then adapt it to work with the other types of MT75....

My car (2000cc Zetec SEiW) has been an ongoing project since I built it in 1997/98
I had been told that I would need a gearlever extension, as the gearlever was much further forward on the type 9 all of which was not true.
The new gearbox mount was almost in the same place as the MT75 mount but the holes are closer together so this mean that the holes had to be slotted I did this with a die grinder.
gear was before with the MT75 gearbox at redline (7500rpm) the car would do about 30mph now with the BGH gearbox it would pull 45mph engine revs dropped to 4600rpm for the next gear change instead of 4000rpm.

The main problem with the MT75 gear box is that it is ideal for the 2.0 Ford engines, as they tend to use higher revs to achieve the speed compared to the 2.9 engines.
To my surprise we found that when ford redesigned the MT75 they keep all the same ratios for 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th but changed 5th gear only.
To modify your standard MT75 gearbox to the new gear ratio you would only have to change the countershaft (orange) and the 5th gear (yellow), the remaining parts would all be standard and compatible.

Spyder is using this box because it utilises a remote shift mechanism, and therefore when cut down to its shortest, will place the gear lever in the optimal place for the driver (it looks about an inch or two further back from the original location).
That's all well and good, and the MT75 is one strong box (ought to cope with a lot of torque - which will be nice if I manage to implement the turbo) but the ratios are a little irksome.

I'm after an MT75 taken from a 4 cylinder Sierra, I'm guessing a 2.0 Pinto, if such a thing exists.
They normally come coupled to the MTX75 box which is also used on the 2.0 Zetec in a Focus so I'm assuming (hopefully correctly) that as the Zetec bolts straight up to the MT75 so will the Duratec.
What I do know is the 2.0 Zetec Focus also uses the MTX75 box and that engine will bolt to an MT75.
