M/V Blue Marlin and her sister ship M/V Black Marlin comprise the Marlin class of semisubmersible heavy transport vessel.
They were owned by Offshore Heavy Transport ASA of Oslo, Norway from the times of their construction, in April 2000 and November 1999 respectively, until July 6, 2001 when they were purchased by Dockwise Shipping BV of the Netherlands.
The US Navy hired the Blue Marlin to transport the destroyer USS Cole back to the United States after it was crippled in Aden, Yemen by a terrorist attack.

Twelve years later, the MV Blue Marlin transported the U.S. guided missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG 67) from Aden, Yemen to Pascagoula, Mississippi, after the warship was damaged in a bombing attack on October 12, 2000.
In 2002, the Blue Marlin also carried the world's largest oil platform, the BP Thunder Horse from a shipyard in Korea to a shipyard in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Many of the larger ships of this class are owned by the company Dockwise, including the Mighty Servant 1 and 3, the Blue Marlin, and the Black Marlin.

They were designed to transport very large semi-submersible drilling rigs which can weigh 30,000 tons and have a center of gravity around 30 meters above the transport ship's deck.

Note this is dangerous as Capt.Devlin and i found out one morning as pitching a livey to a lit blue as he is slamming the chicks right before your eyes is the natural instinct to jump.Long story short he almost ended up in the boat with us instantly.
I filmed him for a few seconds and even got a short fin ride and he fell into the depths of the deep blue and that was it.

SOUTHAMPTON, England - MV American Cormorant, a 738-foot ship chartered by the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command 'sank' off the southern coast of the United Kingdom in order to load eleven U.S. Army watercraft Nov. 30.
American Cormorant is a heavy-lift, float-on/float-off ship specially designed to move outsized cargo like oil rigs, yachts and other watercraft that would be impossible to load aboard ship using conventional methods.
Another ship of this type, MV Blue Marlin, was chartered by MSC in late 2000 to return the damaged guided-missile destroyer USS Cole to the United States for repairs after she suffered a terrorist attack in Yemen.
