Tongan Youths of Adelaide - Article :: The Talakeiola News
As a result of the TBC work attachment, the young people, upon their own initiatives with support from TCR, established the Mataliki Floorshow (see photo below), a dance group which concentrates only on learning and teaching traditional Tongan dances such as ula, lakalaka, mauluulu, kailao and tau’olunga.
Mataliki is a name of one of the stars that ancient Tongans used for navigational purposes; hence the name was used to mean ‘young people navigating their way through and making a cultural connection to Tonga’.
It is expected that in the near future, a Tongan language class will be established not only for TCR members, but also for those in the general public.
