 Ma Lik: Reform depends on stability
Ma was addressing a luncheon of the Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organizations.
Ma said that the DAB, which last week unveiled the names of 29 candidates for the Legislative Council (LegCo) elections on September 12, would announce its election platform in a campaign kick-off ceremony tomorrow.
Ma cautioned that should those parties secure a majority vote in the legislature after the September elections, it could threaten and impede the daily function of the government and damage the relationship between the central government and the legislature.

Ma says Beijing's position is that it is not theoretically opposed to electoral democracy in Taiwan and Hong Kong so as long as the outcomes do not challenge Beijing's bottom-line sovereignty.

Chairman of the Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB) Ma Lik said Sunday that he contracted colon cancer, but he would still stand for the third term Legislative Council (LegCo) election on Sept. 12.
The 52-year-old Ma said in a press conference that he would receive immediate medical treatment and not attend the electoral campaign as advised by doctors.
Ma will remain chairman of the DAB, DAB Vice-Chairman and lawmaker Tam Yiu-chung said in the press conference, adding that the other DAB candidates will do their best to invite votes for DAB in Ma's absence before the upcoming LegCo election.
