Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp (Den Briel, 23 april 1598 – Slag bij Ter Heijde, 10 augustus 1653) was een officier, en later admiraal, in de Nederlandse marine.
Tromp werd verkocht in Salé en bleef twee jaar slaaf, totdat de Brit hem weer vrijkocht.
In 1639 leidde Tromp de vloot die een grote Spaanse hulpvloot, de zogenaamde Tweede Spaanse Armada, op weg naar Vlaanderen stopte in de Slag bij Duins en kreeg hiervoor van Lodewijk XIII in 1640 een ridderschap.

Born in Den Briel, Tromp sailed the seas from the age of nine, and joined the Dutch navy as a lieutenant in 1621.
Tromp, a "sea hero", was immensely popular with the common people, a sentiment expressed by the greatest of Dutch poets, Joost van den Vondel in a famous poem describing his marble grave monument in Delft showing the admiral on his moment of death with a burning British fleet on the background:
