Thus, Sarangani’s mixed population of Cebuano-speaking Blaans and Muslims in the east coast, Ilocano-speaking Tbolis, Manobos and Muslims in the west coast, and Ilonggo-speaking Blaans and Kaolos in the north uplands, is unique and in harmony.
Although Maasim was accounted to have the smallest number of people with 31,641 at 3.21% growth rate, it was Kiamba to have ascended least with only 2.17 percent.

Sarangani Province’s history dates back to the turn of the 15th Century when Sarip Kabungsuan of Arabia arrived in Cotabato Province in Mindanao to introduce Islam with the help of religious teachers.
Sarangani Province constitutes the seven municipalities formerly under South Cotabato Province, such as the coastal municipalities of Glan, Alabel, Malapatan, Kiamba, Maasim, and Maitum and the upland Municipality of Malungon.
Of the total land area of Sarangani, it is estimated that about 12% are considered pasture land, 68% are forest lands, and 20% are croplands and the built-up areas are incorporated in this land classification which covers 2% of the total land area.

Sarangani Governor Miguel Dominguez has called for stiff sanctions against a lady government official and 10 others who were apprehended during the weekend by the police for extracting corals in Maasim town, Sarangani Province.
The move of the Sarangani governor came as a reaction to the arrest of Teresa Garay, division head of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, who was aboard a city government vehicle with nine others when they were caught in the possession of 24 corals of different species.
A report by the Sarangani Information Office said Garay was on board a white L300 van with plate number SHA 364, owned by the city government of Gen. Santos and was driven by Alejandro Objenares when they were caught in the act of transporting the corals from Maasim town to this city.

MAASIM, Sarangani (23 October) — Scouting got more exciting for 500 Rover and Roverette Scouts who planted 2,500 “Nabol” tree seedlings Sunday in the rolling hills of sitio Tahakayo – 10 km.
The scouts were participants of the five-day 2006 Scout Jamborette and Eco-Camp in Maasim.
The Jamborette attracted 3,000 participants from the provinces of Sarangani, South Cotabato and the City of Koronadal.

MAASIM, Sarangani Province (2 June) — Gov. Migs Dominguez called for stiff sanctions against 10 people, including a government employee who were apprehended by members of the Sarangani Provincial Mobile Group for extracting corals in Maasim Sarangani Province last Saturday, May 27, 2006.
The corals were confiscated and bought to the Provincial Police Office of Sarangani in Alabel where it was identified by the personnel of the Environment Protection and Conservation Center (ECPC) of Sarangani Province.
Efren Valeriano, Provincial Police Director of Sarangani, said 21 Acropora, 1 Millepora, 1 Porite, and 1 Montipora species of corals were identified by ECPC personnel.

Rolando Tuballes, Maasim town’s environment officer, said that “solid waste management and pollution control is manageable in the plantation site” but there is a need to conserve soil and water in the area because this will affect the growers and community members.
Oscar Simanagan, Dole Philippines’ superintendent and officer-in-charge of the Maasim plantation, said that the company will also install a mobile processing plant in 2007 to process fresh fruit for shipment in General Santos City, 43 km east of Maasim.
