Ibra Blames Government for Laamu, Maavah Unrest |
 | | Maavah residents refused to allow Laamu Atoll Chief Mohamed Naeem to leave the island last Wednesday, following a dispute over the island’s electricity supply. |
 | | Deputy Maavah island chief Gafoor told Minivan that the dispute started when an electricity supply project, due to power 225 homes, ran into difficulties due to a shortage of cable. |
 | | When the atoll chief visited the island to try and resolve the problem irate islanders, unhappy with the delays to the project, effectively held him hostage for two days, before he was freed by the police. |
