MABALACAT, Pampanga—Mabalacat is boosting its image as the most progressive town in Pampanga, having posted the highest income among all towns in the province, according to a Commission on Audit (COA) report on the financial performance of Central Luzon towns over the last four years.
After the conversion of San Fernando into a city, Mabalacat is the next town eyeing cityhood having met all requisites such as a yearly income of at least P1 million for three consecutive years, 150,000 population and a land area of 100,000 square kilometers.
Both the Mabalacat SB and the Association of Barangay Chairmen have earlier passed a similar resolution seeking the conversion of Mabalacat into a component city given the fast-pace development the town was experiencing.

MABALACAT, Pam­panga—Officials of this town threaten to stop the construction of the Ma­balacat portion of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway Project if the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) would likewise halt building access roads directly linking the expressway to the Clark zone and Ma­balacat.
Mayor Marino Morales of Mabalacat, co-chair of the influential Metro Clark Advisory Council, issued the threat after learning that the BCDA has altered the original design of the interchanges and logistic centers in favor of the proposed Dolores (Mabalacat) interchange.
Morales, also outgoing president of Pampanga Mayors League, warned that some sectors would oppose the construction of the expressway if the access road at Mabalacat is excluded in the new design.

The Pelco 2 satellite office in Mabalacat was shut down on December 1, for its failure to pay over P13 million in unpaid business taxes since 1992, and lack of business permit.
The same was prevalent in Mabalacat town, particularly the commercial district of Barangay Dau.

Mabalacat, Pampanga — A 42-year old carpenter, who reportedly raped his 12-year old daughter for several times was collared by the Mabalacat police after a brief chase.
Rape and abduction cases have become rampant in Pampanga, with at least seven other rape cases committed for the month of December.
The seven women with age ranging from 15 to 22 years old were kidnapped and raped in separate incidents in Mabalacat, Porac, San Fernando City and Angeles City.

MABALACAT, Pampanga -- A fire that broke out at the fourth floor of the Dee Hwa Liong Foundation College (DHLFC) in Sitio Maisac, Mabalacat resulted in damage to properties estimated at P10 million, a police report said Tuesday.
No casualties were reported but the fire gutted all of the 45 rooms situated at the fourth floor of the school building.
Fire investigators are still determining the real cause of the fire as witnesses said they heard an explosion from the school's dormitory prior to the blaze.
