Her father came from Mabuiag Island, closer to the center of Torres Strait.
Christine Anu's connection with her family heritage was the times her father pulled out his guitar, put down the mats on the veranda of the family home, and encouraged a family singalong, singing island songs.
Her version of Neil Murray's Warumpi Band "My Island Home" -- the song which has come Anu's trademark -- was released three months later, as a prelude to the release of the May, 1995, album Stylin' Up, produced by Not Drowning Waving's David Bridie.

QAO was advised by its contract auditor that the Erub Island Council had decided to adopt the accrual method of accounting in 2002–03 and that additional audit work was necessary to assist Council in preparing the statutory financial statements and to verify the entries processed to implement accrual accounting.
While the Mabuiag, Warraber and St Pauls Councils are commended for decreasing the level of debts due, it is noted that the leve of debts at all other Councils, whose 2002–03 financial statements were finalised at 30 April 2004, have increased.

IGI records Jane being born in 1898 at Mabuaig, Thursday Island, Torres Strait, Australia but this is obviously not possible.
The Queensland birth records and the N.T. shipping records have the surname of the family as PABLO but for all intents and purposes the family was known as AHMAT in all the years the family lived in Darwin, which is to date.

It is a celebration of living on Mabuiag Island, and is an acknowledgement of the importance of the local language and culture.
While mainstream students have their language and culture constantly reinforced by the language they speak and the books they read, this is not the case for Mabuiag Island which has Kala Lagaw Ya as their home language, and cultural experiences different to those displayed in books.

Christine Anu (born 1973) is an Australian aboriginal pop singer from Cairns, Queensland.
Descended from the indigenous inhabitants of Saibai Island and Mabuiag Island, Anu began performing as a dancer.
After "My Island Home", she released her first album, Stylin' Up which garnered some mainstream success, especially the dance single "Party", and also gained her a position as a spokeswoman for Aborigines.

 Tagged dugongs stay near Mabuiag Island
In September, James Sheppard and his team from James Cook University and CRC Torres Strait, with the help of local Mabuiag Island hunters, attached satellite tags to wild dugongs so that the movement and behaviour of the dugongs could be tracked.
One of the tags, which was attached to a male dugong, seems to have prematurely broken free, and is drifting west of Torres Strait.
The two metre long female dugong (#5537) was 14.5km northeast of Mabuiag and the 1.9 metre long male dugong (# 5065) was 15.8km north of Mabuiag.
