 Unicode Keyboards for Mac OS
Create your own custom Unicode keyboard for Mac OS 9 or X! Enter your layout specification in the box below, and submit to get a keyboard resource file, resource source code that you can compile with Rez, or a hexadecimal representation that you can paste into ResEdit (see installation instructions).
In Mac OS X, installable keyboard layouts may be of one of four scripts: Roman, Cyrillic, Central European, or Unicode.
Using the "Unicode" script will deselect your keyboard and render it unselectable whenever you enter a an application that does not support Unicode, and also (although this may be a Mac OS bug) when you are in a Unicode-based application and a text entry box is not present.

Apple Thinks Different, Plans New OS / '99 Mac update melds old system, Rhapsody
Apple's new OS -- called Mac OS X (Roman numeral ``10'') -- is a hybrid of the company's current software, Mac OS 8, and Rhapsody, technology developed by NeXT Software that can run several functions at once, prevent system shutdowns when an application fails, and perform faster networking tasks.
Mac OS X will run software applications written for Mac OS 8 with a minor ``tune-up.'' Jobs said developers will need just a few months to update their applications -- rather than the one to two years it would have taken them to revamp programs to run on Rhapsody.
Mac OS X is expected to eventually become the system installed on all new Mac systems.
