You may email the MacDraw files to support@eazydraw.com and we will return the *.ezdraw converted file, which you may view in the reader mode (without purchasing a license).
Our full import of all the information in the MacDraw file will make your move to OS X a pleasant experience.
All you'll need to do is use EazyDraw to make your next revisions to your existing MacDraw files.

  5.1.3 Shorten Lines
After MacDraw displays the selection handles, the user would move the mouse to the location of the top handle, press the mouse button, and drag the mouse down while watching the pixels until the end-point of the line just touches the arc.
MacDraw does not support formal interprocess communication, but it is interesting to consider the relative benefits of pixel data access if it did, or if the user was using a drawing program that did.
MacDraw does not support interprocess communication and it is hard to imagine any way to automate this task without the program having access to information about the lines and arcs in the drawing.

MacDraw Pro required the addition of extensive color functionality, including the ability to view and edit multiple full color palettes, blend and mix custom colors, and create gradients.
The color interface for MacDraw Pro needed to be accessible and easy-to-learn for novice users and yet sophisticated and powerful enough for experienced graphics users.
Our goal was to maintain the simplicity and familiarity of the original MacDraw II application interface while adding extensive functionality, such as the powerful new color, pattern and gradient features.

 MacDraw Information
MacDraw was one of the first WYSIWYG drawing programs that could be used in collaboration with MacWrite.
MacDraw was especially useful in drawing flowcharts, diagrams and technical drawings.
MacDraw II released by Claris introduced the lacked features that were not in the last version and was also enhanced for the Macintosh II.

MacDraw is a recommended program for creating figures, since it produces code that is independent of scaling (as opposed to MacPaint, which produces a bitmap of the figure).
As of this writing, it is possible to convince MacDraw, and most other Macintosh applications, to place a PostScript descrip- tion of a figure in a file rather than sending it directly to a LaserWriter by hitting clover-F immediately after clicking 'OK' on the print dialog box.
MacDraw creates an output file in the form of 'QuickDraw' calls, which are interpreted as a set of PostScript procedures.

Also, it has never been able to import drawings in MacDraw or MacDraw II format (or pretty much anything other than PICT), and its native format is much less storage-efficient though it compresses well.
My guess is that MacDraw assigns free disk space value to a variable that is too small relative to modern disk drives, yielding the error.
The "save" problem with MacDraw sounds very much like the same problem that I have had with ClarisCad ever since switching to OS X. The best solution for me was to create a 500 MB disk image to hold the application and the documents.

MacDraw however is a vector drawing program, and it opened my eyes to a whole new way of drawing.
The difference between the two is that with Paint, it is literally like painting, each stroke or image you place on the screen is fixed, you can't move it or stretch it, just as you couldn't do this with a painting you had made.
However with a drawing program like MacDraw or AppleWorks, you can place an item on the page, but you are still able to manipulate it, or change its colour, or stretch it.

 5.1.2 Wrap Text Field
Communication to MacDraw is required to create the rounded rectangle.
Communication from MacDraw to the program is required to determine the size and location of the text field.
MacDraw does not support such techniques, but it is still a worthwhile hypothetical comparison since in many situations it is a direct alternative to pixel data access.

 Update Your Apple Software
MacDraw 1.9.5 launches 20% to 75% faster, includes a zoom box in the title bar, supports up to 54 fonts, and offers a cancel button in the printing dialogue box, new command keys, and true what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) text.
The new upgrade works smoothly with desk accessories and allows you to cut and paste across volumes and save Draw and PICT formats without any loss of data when saving a file under the same name.
Your dealer will copy the new program to your disk and provide you with any additional application-specific notes, either on disk or in printed form.

Autumn 91 - CURVES AHEAD: WORKING WITH CURVES IN QUICKDRAW
Applications such as MacDraw® use this type of curve to allow the drawing of freehand curves, and the Macintosh itself uses this type of curve in an internal procedure to describe TrueType fonts.
We show the coding and the data structures used by programs like MacDraw to draw this kind of curve, and we show how your application can interchange data about this kind of curve with MacDraw and with devices equipped with a PostScript® interpreter.
In AddSegmentToPict (below), cur is the current segment to be added; isLine is a Boolean identifying whether the segment is a curve or a line segment; and delta specifies an amount to offset the data when recording the PostScript version, to account for the difference between PostScript's centered pen and QuickDraw's upper left pen.

There are several files that I had designed in MacDraw II that I cannot transfer to any other format because if a MacDraw format is supported, it is more often than not MacDraw Pro which, ironically, could not read MacDraw II files; yet it could read files from the original MacDraw.
When I worked as the graphics analyst at this university’s library we purchased Canvas 7 because of the price-to-feature ratio and I was never disappointed by that decision and bought the Mac version when I purchased my Cube later the same year.

TidBITS: Intaglio: May the Quartz Be with You
You could draw a square or an oval, with a thick or thin line, filled solid or with a pattern, because those were all basic QuickDraw primitives; in effect, you were accessing the very same code that gave the Mac itself its distinctive look, allowing it to draw windows and buttons in the first place.
The look of Mac OS X comes in large part from the fact that Quartz provides native support for Bezier paths and coordinate transforms (for rotation, skewing, and scaling), along with sophisticated effects such as transparency, shadows, and gradients.
It also succeeds in giving you the feeling that your toolbox is really Quartz itself, that behind your simple clicking and dragging, the power of Mac OS X is bursting out to provide your drawing with color, transparency, gradients, rotated and skewed shapes, and snazzy text effects.
