SparkNotes: Macbeth: Analysis of Major Characters
Lady Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s most famous and frightening female characters.
Lady Macbeth’s remarkable strength of will persists through the murder of the king—it is she who steadies her husband’s nerves immediately after the crime has been perpetrated.
This theme of the relationship between gender and power is key to Lady Macbeth’s character: her husband implies that she is a masculine soul inhabiting a female body, which seems to link masculinity to ambition and violence.

 Lady MacBeth
Lady Macbeth is an interesting character, the impression she initially gives is that of an evil cold-hearted monster, the prophecy in Macbeth´s letter only reinforces her own opinion that she and her husband should be the ruling monarchs in Scotland, and I suspect that even without the prophecy she would have pursued her ambition.
And though Macbeth does not mourn her death a great deal, he was under attack at the time, and since Macbeth´s coronation, it does seem that Lady Macbeth is fazed out of the play, perhaps an indication that they were growing apart, into their own separate, paranoid worlds, filled with remorse and cloaked daggers.
Lady Macbeth herself I assume, was developing doubts and was unable to help Macbeth as well as tend to her own guilt.

 Macbeth by William Shakespeare
Shakespeare uses much imagery such as “dugeon gouts of blood.” Although the sentence structure is not simple, but inverted and changed in such a way to fit the rhythm scheme, the meaning is not hard to contrive being somewhat simple compared to other passages.
Lady Macbeth frets in her sleep of not being able to wash the blood off of her hands since she feels so guilty about the murder.
Shakespeare was able to establish himself both as a playwright and a poet during this time.

New adaptation puts the lady into ‘MacBeth
Shakespeare, of course, didn't write many strong roles for women Lady Macbeth being one of the exceptions so Stachura hoped this casting call would create some roles for female actors.
For example, when Lady Macbeth played by the equally dynamic Shari Shattuck tells Macbeth that she would keep her word even to the point of dashing out the brains of a baby, the scene somehow achieves a greater level of poignancy because both have the potential to bear children.
Joseph Stachura, the director, explained that his initial vision had been to cast Macbeth as a woman and then hold open casting calls for all the parts, so that there would be a mix of genders and races in the different roles.

Shakespeare's immediate source for his story is Raphael Holinshed's Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland (1577); the passage concerning Macbeth is extracted from Allardyce and Josephine Nicoll's Holinshed's Chronicle as Used in Shakespeare's Plays (1927).

 The Death of Pat Macbeth
Lady MacBeth dies offstage in a semi-quiet moment, while her husband's death is onstage in the heat of battle.
The first aspect of Pat's pathos is that she sustains a physical injury from the murder of Duncan, whereas Lady MacBeth receives no injury from the enactment of the murder.
Following her comparatively gentle display of insanity, Lady MacBeth's apparent suicide proves to be an equally mild and gentle death when contrasted with Pat's death.

 Macbeth
The character of Lady Macbeth is that of a woman with an aristocratic background and a refined, hospitable demeanor.
Shakespeare, however, created a character who was dominated by his wife’s controlling influence and exhibits obvious anxiety with regard to his traditional position in the household -- quite the contrary of the stereotypical male of that time period.
As they plan the devious murder, Lady Macbeth advises her husband to, “Look the innocent flower, but be the serpent under’t,” (35) Duncan’s trust of Macbeth is evident as he comments on the peace and tranquillity of the home of the Thane of Cawdor.
