  Machzor - Judaica Guide
The Machzor is a specialized form of the Siddur, the Prayer Book used by Jews around the world.
The Machzor (or Mahzor) is used by religious Jews on the High Holidays (Yamim Noraim, "The Days of Awe") of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and the three "Pilgrim Festivals" (Shalosh Regalim) of Passover, Shavuot, and Sukkot.
The Machzor does not include the daily prayers and blessings that one should recite on week days and Sabbath, which are found in the Siddur.

 USCJ: Prayer for the People
As I worked on the machzor, the High Holiday prayer book, cutting and pasting, taking out some sections and putting in others, I kept an eye on my television, watching the chaos and terror on view in Grant Park in Chicago during the Democratic convention there.
As I worked on the machzor, I realized how important it is to use different media in the exploration of spirituality.
The machzor we used in 1985 was strikingly different from the one used in the traditional service.

ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS manuscripts of the Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana is the machzor for Yom Kippur and Sukkot, completed by the scribe Kalonymos ben Judah in Esslingen, on 28 Tevet 5050 (12 January 1290).
In other manuscripts, the place of origin has to be inferred from specific regional features in the liturgy or from the stylistic criteria of the decoration and illustrations.
Since the death of R. Meir in I293 is the terminus a quo for the completion of the Double Machzor, it must therefore have been produced after the volume Kalonymos ben Judah copied in Esslingen.

MyJewishLearning.com - Texts: Overview: High Holiday Machzor
Although we tend to unite Rosh Hashanah (the New Year) and Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) in our thinking as the High Holidays or the Days of Awe, the two holidays are distinct in their themes and observance.
Nevertheless, the liturgical texts for the two holidays often are put into one book, the High Holiday Machzor (literally "cycle," here "festival prayer book"), and this forces us to look at the two holidays together.
Only the last four leave their mark on the text in the Machzor.

The mahzor (alternately machzor, plural mahzorim, Hebrew מחזור, IPA [max.zór] and [max.zo.rím]) is the prayer book used by Jews on the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Many Jews also make use of specialized mahzorim on the three "pilgrimage festivals" of Passover, Shavuot, and Sukkot.
Most machzorim contain only text and no musical notation; the melodies, some of which are ancient, have been passed down orally.

We referred to four other machzors for guidance: the Conservative Silverman machzor, published in the 1948, the Conservative Harlow machzor, published in 1972, the Reform machzor, called Gates of Repentance,** and the infamous Artscroll, the Orthodox machzor du jour.
