(Mack) McLarty III, (born 1946) is a prominent Arkansas business and political leader and former White House Chief of Staff for US President Bill Clinton, and current President of Kissinger McLarty Associates (his consulting company with Henry Kissinger) and President and Chief Executive Officer of Asbury Automotive Arkansas, dba McLarty Companies.
McLarty began his career building the company his grandfather founded, McLarty Leasing Systems, into one of the nation's largest transportation companies." Upon leaving the White House in July 1998, Mr.

McLarty, a 1969 graduate and student government president of the University, left the White House in July 1998 and returned to his native state after serving in several top positions including chief of staff, counselor to the president and special envoy for the Americas.
Born and raised in Hope, McLarty was an all star quarterback, governor of Boys State and president of the Associated Student Government at the University of Arkansas.

The adviser, Thomas (Mack) McLarty, a childhood friend of Clinton who sits on the President-elect's transition board, is not charged with any wrongdoing in the suit filed by the Resolution Trust Corp. But a spokeswoman said the transition board will "take seriously" the possibility that his role might cause a conflict of interest.
The RTC suit alleges that McLarty's firm, Arkla Inc., is ultimately responsible for the "misdeeds and negligence" that occurred in the operation of University Savings of Houston, which was seized by federal regulators in 1989.
McLarty said in the letter that "we believe that this is another case where the RTC is chasing 'deep pockets' in response to political pressure.

Two days later, while Mack and Arenas were in a meeting with the Defense Minister to discuss the attack on Albizures, a threatening phone call was received at the AVANCSO offices from an individual saying that Mack and Arenas were being watched at all times.
McLarty also had the opportunity to visit the UN demobilization camps set up for former URNG combatants and to meet with President Arzu and other government officials to discuss peace accord implementation.

The House held hearings on the salary of the President of the United States last month, and heard that 30 years is a long time to go without a pay raise.
McLarty observed that, "It is an honor to serve one's country and we do not and should not expect any of us to profit or become rich from government service." But, he added, "I think it's fair to say that opportunity costs are high and they are in-creasing.
And I am worried that we are attracting fewer citizens who have proven successful careers in private life to serve our country." McLarty also expressed his concern about the fixed presidential salary compressing the wages for others who serve in the public sector.
