 | | Born at Detroit, Michigan, July 2, 1928, he won fame for piloting the Bell X-2 research rocket plane to a world's record of 126,200 feet on September 7, 1956, and for which he received the Mackay Trophy the next year. |
 | | For this achievement be was presented with the Mackay Trophy, as well as another Distinguished Flying Cross, by General Thomas White. |
 | | In August 1957, Air Force Chief of Staff General Thomas D. White presented Captain Iven C. Kincheloe with the Mackay Trophy for "the most meritorious flight of the preceding year." A month later Kincheloe was selected as the X-15 project test pilot with Captain Bob White as his alternate. |
