		No updates to FreeHand have been made for over four years, and Adobe has no plans to initiate development to add new features or to upport Intel-based Macs and Windows Vista.
		While we recognize FreeHand has a loyal customer base, we encourage users to migrate to the new Adobe Illustrator CS3 which supports both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs and Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Vista.
		FreeHand customers can switch to Illustrator CS3 for US$199 (volume licensing also available), and access complimentary resources to ease the transition.

		Now, just when FreeHand users were beginning to wonder if Macromedia had completely forgotten about them, the company has brought out a new version designed to put minds at ease and to reconfirm FreeHand's central role in a publishing vision straddling both print and Web.
		Essentially FreeHand is restricted to producing the simplest of animations and storyboarding and even here its usefulness is limited by the inability to produce Flash's native FLA format files rather than SWF.
		Ultimately FreeHand's move towards the Web does make sense, but it shouldn't be at the cost of general graphic design power and needs to be better thought through than this.

		Normally Freehand would be considered on the professional level of vector art along with Adobe Illustrator 8 (r), Corel DRAW 8 (r) and other programs from the other companies.
		To begin with, if you are unfamiliar with Freehand, the tutorials are excellent, as are the wizards that can get you well on your way to drawing vector art for a project or laying out a newsletter, etc. I will say, however, that you will not learn this program in 5 minutes.
