 NationMaster - Encyclopedia: Macross
Macross is widely regarded as a classic of the genre, combining the tropes of giant transforming robots, apocalyptic battles, wartime romance, and victory through the use of a number of means, one of them being bubblegum pop music.
The word Macross comes from a wordplay combination of the prefix Macro in reference to its relatively massive size (though when compared with the alien ships in the series it is only a gun destroyer).
Macross II was declared a parallel world story.

 Itano Circus - Biocrawler
The term was popularized by the anime The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, but this animation style with its homage to air circuses could be seen in earlier works such as the first Gundam animated works and the Daicon convention videos.
However, it is most commonly used in specific reference to an attack where a mecha or spaceship launches a large swarm of missiles with meticulously animated spiraling smoke trails and erratic trajectories.
This is sometimes called the Macross Missile Massacre by a small subset of english-speaking fans.

My advice is to launch a ton of missiles at Kiyora on your way in to the pick up to tie her up for a few seconds and keep her off your back.
Use your missiles to keep her busy while counting on your cannon as the only means of scoring good hits and piling on the damage.
But, as always, she pauses to fire her missiles, and if you can learn the patterns of her movements, you can actually time your missiles to hit her dead on right after she launches hers, and this can put some pretty good dents in her armor.

They hoped that a lack of mecha combined with the Zentraedi's genetic inability to repair their own war machines would discourage malcontent Zentraedi from attacking, or at least weaken them enough to be easily defeated by RDF peacekeeping forces.
After the Brasilia Massacre in July of 2015, bands of Malcontents used these mecha to strike back at RDF and Southern Cross peacekeeping forces.
