CEBU CITY -- The Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the busiest international hub outside Metro Manila, is in danger of being shut down because of its dangerous runway.
Angelo Verdan, manager of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), affirmed Saturday that the airport's runway is "dangerous" and he would not hesitate to stop the airport's operation should his technical staff declare it is no longer safe.
Verdan's statement came in the heels of a pronouncement made Thursday by the Philippine Air Lines, the country's flag carrier, that it would be constrained to suspend all its flights to and from Cebu because of the deteriorating runway of the MCIA.
