Since 1998, the Macworld Conference and Expo has been known for its keynote presentations by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, though in 2003, Apple appeared to be moving away from keynote presentations, planning its own (less expensive) press events.
The Expo was also held in Brooks Hall near the San Francisco Civic Center from 1985 to 1993, when the expansion of Moscone Center allowed the show to be consolidated in one location.
Macworld Expo Summit, a version of the show targeted at U.S. government customers, was held at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. as late as 1994.

The first MacWorld Expo was held in January 1985 in San Francisco and it has grown ever since.
The Expo was held entirely in San Fran-cisco's Moscone Center, with additional conferences and panels held in nearby hotel conference rooms, such as the Mariott and Ana hotels.
Expo's keynote sessions are discussions of topics of general interest to the Macintosh community.

IDG World Expo on Friday announced that Macworld (news - web sites) Conference and Expo will take place in Boston in the summer of 2004 instead of New York.
The fate of a New York-based expo has been up in the air since last October when IDG World Expo said they were moving the show to Boston -- Apple told MacCentral at the time that they would not participate in a Boston expo.
Macworld Conference and Expo changed its name a couple of times before settling on Macworld CreativePro as IDG World Expo moved the focus of the show more on the Macintosh (news - web sites) creative community.

MacWorld New York visitors tended to be much better dressed than the usual Boston MacWorld crowd, with more of a tendency to spout tough-sounding business and finance blather; the Boston crowd tends more to towards obtuse technogeek.
MacWorld Expo New York had one very nice innovation: large bins in the lobbies filled with sample copies of various Mac-related publications.
The fist day of the general Expo, July 8, there was a grisly death in downtown New York, but it was a woman rollerblader who ran under a tour bus, not a Mafia or gangland murder.

IDG World Expo today officially moved Macworld Conference & Expo back to Boston from New York, where the show spent the past several years.
The East Coast Expo will remain in New York for the 2003 summer show and then move to Boston for a show scheduled for July 12-15, 2004.
Charlie Greco, IDG World Expo president and CEO, said the move to New York was done years ago because Boston didn't have the space to hold such a big show.

All the confusion about what the show title is and who the show is for does not help numbers - exhibitor count is way down (from a little over 200 to about 135) and the floor is much smaller.
Apple Power Macintosh G5: Most folks at the expo have never seen one, and it's reassuring to know that the enclosure looks much more impressive in real life than it does in print (unusual for a modern Apple product).
The next Macworld is scheduled for January 5-9, 2004 in San Francisco - it's expected to be a 'normal' Macworld.

Black curtains turned the Macworld Moscone Center into flened windows and a maze of prescribed walkways and proscribed zones guarded by blue polyester suits with walkie-talkies.
As for the Expo itself, abandoning any pretense that Macworld can fill the Moscone Center, it was moved to just the South Hall.
