The median income for a household in the county was $40,156, and the median income for a family was $50,071.

Elizabeth Husten, one of the oldest of the native citizens of this township, was born on the 17th day of November, 1808, and has resided in this township all her hefe, and is the daughter of Jonathan and Susanna (Rench) Harshman.
When she was three weeks old, her father removed to Miami County, settling two and one-half miles south of Troy, the county seat, and made one of the first permanent settlements in that neighborhood, building a large stronghouse, to which the neighbors all flocked for protection when there was danger from hostile Indians.

 Van Buren Township
John Pough, was a Marylander and settled in the township in 1813, having purchased 160 acres of land.
The civil township of Van Buren was organized from other territory by an act of the Commissioners of Montgomery County, at a special session held June 26, 1841, at which time its boundaries were fixed and provision made for the election of township officers, and such other business transactions as became necessary in the case.
The Hamilton County Court House at Cincinnati was constructed of stone quarried on this farm.

Jacob D. Harter, the father of the doctor, was a volunteer in the war of 1812, and in 1820 came to Ohio and settled in the wilderness of Miami county, in Elizabeth township.

The township is watered and drained by several creeks, the principal one being Beaver Creek and its tributaries.

 Great Miami River Recreation Trail - Section 1   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
The first section of the trail opened June 2003 on a 1.6 mile section that follows the old Miami and Erie Canal (Brochure) that was built from Toledo to Cincinnati during 1825-1840.
When all seven sections are complete the trail will run from Montgomery County's Taylorsville MetroPark north to Tipp City, Troy and Piqua, and will end in Shelby County at Sidney, Ohio.
In June 2003 the first section was dedicated in Concord Township on the route of the old Miami-Erie Trail from Dye Mille Road to the Monroe Township line.

PRL is bounded by the Great Miami River to the south, Powell Road to the north, a small, intermittent, unnamed stream to the east, and woods to the west (Figure 1, Appendix A).
The Ohio Suburban Water Company (OSWC) well field is 0.75 mile southeast of the landfill, pumps an average of 3.8 million gallons per day to supply water to the approximately 39,000 residents of Huber Heights and a portion of adjacent Mad River Township.
Community concerns were gathered at a Ohio Department of Health Public Involvement Session in Huber Heights, Ohio and are listed and addressed in the Community Health Concerns Evaluations Section of this document.

Samuel and Catharine had lived on or near Brown Street in Dayton, Ohio from the fall of 1833 until January 26, 1860 when they purchased and settled on a small nine and one half acre tract of land in Mad River Township on Springfield Road (Valley Pike) in Dayton, Ohio.
Birth and death dates not found in the bible were taken from the respective cemetery stones and or from the Montgomery County Health Department records at the Montgomery County Building in Dayton, Ohio.

So when the Hamers, the Gahagans, the Van Cleves, the Lemons, the Kemps, and the Dilles came to Mad River Township Montgomery County, Ohio in 1795-1804, the word spread back to the Pennsylvania and Maryland that Ohio was a fruitful and safe place to settle.
Her gravestone states that she is the daughter of Michael and Eve Bargmann, born 26 March 1776 Berkeley County, Virginia, died 5 June 1827 aged 51-2-10..
