Among Western listeners, the Japanese trio Mad Capsule Markets has most frequently been compared to Atari Teenage Riot, thanks to the crashing punk and metal guitars which overlay the band's aggressive electronic backdrop of industrial, techno, and drum'n'bass rhythms.
Released in Japan in 1996, 4 Plugs became their most popular album up to that point, and was quickly followed by the retrospective The Best of the Mad Capsule Markets, which proved equally popular.
Their popularity in Japan only continued to grow with 1999's OSC-DIS (Oscillator in Distortion), which spun off five Japanese hit singles, including "Pulse" and "Good Girl," the latter of which was featured in a TV commercial.

Mad Capsule Markets: OSC-DIS (Oscillator in Distortion): Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-27)
There are a lot of reasons for this, and the primary one is probably that, for all of their stuttering riffs, dropped tunings and double bass fills, Mad Capsule Markets are never lacking in the melodic department, which makes listening a lot easier.
It could also have something to do with the cultural filter the music is being sifted through before it gets to me. See, these guys are from Japan, and they approach their music with a certain open-minded eclecticism that seems to characterize a lot of the music coming from that country these days.
So, overall, the Mad Capsule Markets have it going on in spades, grabbing your adrenal glands and squeezing them as hard as possible.

The band began on its own Insect Noise label, but moved up to Victor in 1991, where the first released P.O.P. Their sound was primarily punk at this time, but with a very tight aggressive sounding rhythm section (in contrast to often sloppy punk bands), and intense, distorted vocals.
