 Azores
The Azores are in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, almost half way between the Old and the New World.
While the entire chain of islands is composed of the peaks of some of the tallest mountains on Earth (as measured from their bases far under the ocean), the last volcanic eruption on the Island of Sao Miguel occurred in 1652.
The weather on Sao Miguel and on all the islands of the Azores is mild all year round and the many bays and lagoons which dot the island’s shoreline provide an abundance of swimming, snorkeling, diving and sailing activities.

Pico Island, named for its imposing mountain, is one of the most beautiful and definitely the most underrated island of the Azores.
Pico landscape is a sublime mixture of lava rock and exotic vegetation in an ever changing scenery that envelopes this scarcely populated island.
As one local governor puts it, Pico is California of the Azores Islands (well at least until the gold rush), offering the sun, the ocean, the plains and the mountain.

 Pico
It is 42 km long, has a maximum width of 15 km and an area of 447 km² making the second largest of the Azores islands.
The main settlements are the capital Madalena, São Roque do Pico and Lajes do Pico, the total population is around 15,000.
Pico has long been the boat-building center of the Azores: fishing boats, whaleboats (canoas), dories, launches andeven model boats have been built here for as long as anyone remembers.
