Madeline Kahn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kahn was born in Boston, Massachusetts, as Madeline Gail Wolfson to a Jewish family.
Kahn's roles were primarily comedic rather than dramatic, though the 1970s found her originating roles in two plays that had both elements: 1974's In the Boom Boom Room and 1977's Marco Polo Sings a Solo.
Kahn succumbed to ovarian cancer on December 3, 1999, at the age of 57.

Jewish Women in Comedy - Madeline Kahn
Born September 29, 1942 in Boston, Madeline Gail Kahn was the oldest child of Paula Kahn and Bernard Wolfson.
Although her mother was Jewish, Kahn was not raised in an observant household; she once said in an interview that her mother "investigated various religions." When Kahn took on the role of Gorgeous, however, her mother proved to be very helpful, finding women in her community who allowed her to videotape their rituals.
In September 1998, Kahn was diagnosed with ovarian cancer though she didn't announce her condition until November 1999.

Kahn was nominated for Academy Awards for her portrayals of Southern doxy Trixie Delight in Bogdanovich's Paper Moon (1973) and Dietrich-like chanteuse Lilly Von Schtupp ("Oh, it's twue, it's twue, it's twue!") in Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles (1974).
Kahn went on to co-star in Brooks' Young Frankenstein (1974) and High Anxiety (1975), and made a return trip to the Bogdanovich fold in the disastrous At Long Last Love (1976) Her manic comedy style could be appealing, but, to paraphrase the late film encyclopedist Leslie Haliwell, it became a quickly overplayed hand.
Kahn's TV projects include the 1983 sitcom Oh, Madeline (based on the British series Pig in the Middle), a single season as George C. Scott's virago sister-in-law in Mister President (1987) and Cosby, the most recent project of comedian Bill Cosby, a sitcom that premiered in 1996.

Kahn also earned her first Tony nomination that year, for her turn as the shallow, conniving go-go dancer in David Rabe's play "Boom Boom Room." In 1974, she played yet another shallow, ambitious dancer, Lili von Shtupp, in director Mel Brooks' Western spoof, "Blazing Saddles," which earned her a second supporting actress nomination.
In 1996, Kahn struck television gold when she was cast as the best friend of Phylicia Rashad's character on the hit series "Cosby." While working on the show, Kahn shot "Judy Berlin," a critically acclaimed independent film about suburbanites desperate for a way out of their humdrum lives.
Kahn was cast as Agnes Gooch in the film version of the musical "Mame," but was fired because she clashed with the movie's star, Lucille Ball.
