A Wind in the Door, the second book in Madeline L'Engle's time trilogy, is a book about the importance of names, the importance of individuals and individuality and how one being can completely alter the fabric of the universe.
A Wind in the Door was written a full 10 years after A Wrinkle in Time and perhaps L'Engle just lost touch with her character a bit.
It is also a book that tells us to look beyond appearances, to throw away assumptions based on size and stature, to fully consider that a submicroscopic being living inside a galaxy that is man is as important as the man living inside a galaxy is as important as the galaxy living inside the universe.

My favorite book by Madeline L'Engle is " A Ring of Endless Light" but I can lose myself in any book that she writes.
I also recomend LOTR (the book, not the movie) though even my friend Sarah, the most hardcore LOTR fan of all time, said she couldn't get through the Silvermarillion (sp is wrong, but I've never heard of the thing).
I have read and own all of her books.

Like Madeline L'Engle, author of that godawful Nipple in Time book or whatever it was I threw across the room when I was eleven and had to read it for school, I too wish that I was assigned Jostein Gaarder's works in my rudimentary philosophy classes.
Gaarder leaves plenty of room for speculation, and does not hesitate for a minute to lead his audience to false conclusions.
Gaarder tells us more or less that the future lies in the cards, that our own individual lives are solitaires thousands of years in the making.

Cherub - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Madeline L'Engle depicted a cherubim (who referred to itself as such, in the singular) as one of the principal characters in her children's fantasy novel A Wind in the Door.
The cherubim in this tradition had each four faces— that of a lion, an ox, an eagle, and a man— and combined features of these four creatures, the stature and hands of a man, the hooved feet of a calf (compare the image of Satan), and the two pairs of wings that identified deities, e.g.
Ark of the Covenant, and two further sculpted cherubim are described as standing on the cover of the Ark facing each other (Ex 25:18).
