Madison County health officials are one step away from approving what could be one of the strongest bans on smoking in Kentucky.
It really is a shame that no one's talking about the DECEMER 11th city council meeting where the Chamber of Commerce gave their report to the Madison City Council, which stated that OVER 90% of the businesses in Madison do NOT want a smoking ban.
People from Ohio cross the river every day to purchase their cigarettes in Kentucky because the tax rates are lower in Kentucky.

Ohio, where he remained until he was commissioned by the Governor of Ohio-David Tod-Assistant Surgeon in the Volunteer forces of Ohio, in the service of the United States, April 3, 1862, when he joined the army at Shiloh.
In the fall of 1869 he was elected by the Republican party of Madison County to the State Legislature: and, in the fall of 1811 was elected to the State Senate by the counties of Madison.
Noteman was one of the earliest settlers of Madison County.

The Whig leaders claimed to see in the war a scheme for the extension of slavery, and on this ground made many bitter speeches against it; but the patriotism of the nation was aroused, and all opposition way swept away before the grand outburst of indignation which it caused.
We are unable to give the names of those from Madison County who participated, but we are assured her sons were not behind those of any other portion of the State in responding to the call made at that time.

 Madison, James
James Madison was born in 1751 near modern-day Port Conway, Virginia.  He lived with his family at Montpelier, the Madison family estate.  He also received extensive schooling and graduated from the College of New Jersey in 1771.
In 1797, Madison retired from the House of Representatives and returned to his home in Virginia.  For the next two years, he engaged in agricultural pursuits, but he returned to politics in 1799 as a member of the Virginia legislature.
Following his presidential term, Madison retired to Virginia.  He remained out of public life other than to help draft a new state constitution for Virginia during the late 1820s.  He preferred life at Montpelier, living the remainder of his life as a gentleman farmer.  He died on June 28, 1836.
