Madison Park is a lovely grassy park on the shores of Lake Washington, south of the Evergreen Point Bridge.
The park features a bathhouse and swimming beach that is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer.
Judge John J. McGilvra created this lakeshore park that in the late 19th century became the most popular beach in the city, and featured a paddle wheel steam boat, a promenade, floating bandstands, beer and gambling halls, athletic fields, a greenhouse, and piers for ships that cruised on Lake Washington.

Madison Square comprises part of a land grant made by the Spanish Government to Joaquin Menchaca on March 10, 1778.

The area around Madison square developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a residential neighborhood of large two-story houses.
