Madre de Dios is a region in southeastern Peru, bordering Brazil, Bolivia and the Peruvian regions of Puno, Cusco and Ucayali.
The south-western boundary with the Cusco Region is known as the Isthmus of Fitzcarrald, a series of small mountains that separate the Madre de Dios River and the Urubamba River.
The region is divided into three provinces (provincias, singular: provincia), which are composed of 10 districts (distritos, singular: distrito).

No sign was seen of the Deños on the D for the remainder of the dry season of 1996 nor in 1997, but signs of activity have returned to the region upriver of Puerto Rey during this past dry season, that of 1998, and the residents of Puerto Rey are apparently alarmed by this.
