Madurodam is a miniature city between Scheveningen and The Hague, Netherlands, that is a model of a Dutch town on a 1:25 scale, composed by (typical Dutch) buildings and landmarks that are found in various places of the country.
On 2 July 1952, then-princess Beatrix was appointed as mayor of Madurodam, after which she was shown around in her town.
Nowadays, the mayor of Madurodam is elected from the youth municipal council, which consists of 25 pupils of schools in the region.

I thought Madurodam was the small village and some of the villagers made excellent miniatures.
Unfortunately I think a lot of folks wouldn't consider visitng Madurodam because they think it is some sort of "tourist trap" and a bunch of people haven't "instructed" them that it is a "must do." So I'm glad you trusted your inner instincts and went inside.
Madurodam was included on our Grayline day tour and I was not expecting much.

Started off with a healthy lunch and then headed off to The Hague to visit MADURODAM and that is where I fell in love with The Netherlands..
The canal houses of Amsterdam, the Alkmaar cheese market and parts of the Delta Works, all replicated in minute detail on a 1:25 scale.
Madurodam was opened officially on 2 July 1952.

The little boat in front would light on fire occasionally, and so a fire boat would come out and put it out...sweet.
At first I thought I would walk the whole way (maybe a little over an hour hike) but then realized it was hot and I was lazy.
I caught a tram and stopped off in Madurodam, which is this uber-touristy place where you can see 1/25 scale models of some of the most interesting sites in the Netherlands.
