Mae Sot now has good air connections with both Bangkok and Changmai and it is becoming a weekend retreat for the white water rafting adventurers as well as those in search of some clean forest air along the reaches of Mae Sot Hill.
Overland bus routes between Tak/Mae Sot and Sukhothai are frequent and quite acceptable and a cheap way to travel from A to B. Outside of Mae Sot and Sukhothai (noticeably where the airports are), hotels only tend to reach 3 star standards, but for one night stopovers and short stays that is sufficient.

Mae Sot is not a "bustling little town" as I read in one guidebook.
You will hear, of course, that Mae Sot is the centre of the fl-market trade between Myanmar and Thailand, which may be true, but for the casual visitor it's not obvious and certainly not worth investigating.

The workers came to Mahachaing from Burma via Mae Sot to work at the TRS prawn processing factory and had a contract with their employer for daily wages of 175 Baht.
But their employer sent them back to Mae Sot when they asked to be paid according to their contract.
Many migrant workers are sent back to Mae Sot after disagreements with their employers.

She will be cancelling her trip to Lopburi to join me in Mae Sot.
