The Japanese Meteorological Agency said 17 aftershocks were recorded between midnight Sunday and noon Monday, with the strongest aftershock registering an intensity of 3 using the Japanese scale of seven in Maebaru, Fukutsu and Shima in Fukuoka Prefecture, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported.
In Fukuoka, 24 people were evacuated because of risk of a landslide, while 510 residents of Genkaijima Island, part of the city, were evacuated Sunday.

Japan-China Friendship Association in Maebaru City sponsored a homestay program during the summer vacation for a Chinese mission group consisting of three principals, two Japanese language teachers and ten students from three middle schools in Shanghai.
After we got a group visa at the Chinese Consulate in Fukuoka, we, explaining the importance of insurance for a trip abroad, had the students fill out the application form for insurance.
