  History of Maesgeirchen
Maesgeirchen is situated on the outskirts of the City of Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales, UK.
Maesgeirchen was originally conceived out of an idea to take up the overspill of Bangor before the outbreak of World War 2.
It was the council's re-development programme to rehouse families from condemned and overcrowded properties in the town.

The Housing committe's commendation of the Maesgeirchen site was greeted with a storm of protest as the land was situated on the other side of the Bangor mountain and far away from the City centre. To rehouse people there would be like turning them out of the City.
When building started on the Maesgeirchen Estate the council departed from its usual costom of giving Welsh names to all the streets and the road joining the A5 was called Penrhyn Avenue in honor of Lord Penrhyn who had provided the site.

Bangor, Wales - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Another claim to fame is that Bangor allegedly has the longest High Street in Wales.
Bangor is largely contained to the south by Bangor Mountain although the large estate of Maesgeirchen, originally built as social housing, is to the east of the toe of the mountain near to Porth Penrhyn.
The presence of Bangor Mountain casts a shadow across the High Street, Glan Adda and Hirael areas such that from November through to March some parts of the High Street in particular receive no direct sunlight as they lie in the shadow of the mountain.
