Magahi Sahu Vaishya derive their caste titles (surname / family name) like Sahu, Sao, Sah, etc. from their ancestral family business of Bankers and money lending: from the Hindi word SAHUKAR, meaning, in a sense, persons dealing with money.
Communities similar to Magahi Sahu Vaishya are also found in other parts of India and they have similar caste names.

Only the Purusha Sukta hymn (Rig Veda 10:90) mentions the castes and compares them to the ugly body of a man: "The Brâhmana was his mouth, of both his arms was the Râjanya made.
His thighs became the Vaishya, from his feet the Sûdra was produced." (RV 10:90:12)
It is very doubtful, however, whether at the time when this hymn was composed the relative position of the two upper castes could already have been settled in so decided a way as this theory might lead one to suppose.
