From the first edition, January-March 1911 The Field Artillery Journal until the last edition, March-April 2007 Field Artillery, the magazine has been dedicated to the professional development of US Army Field Artillerymen, originally, and then, later, also US Marine Corps Field Artillerymen.
It was published under the auspices of the US Army Field Artillery School and Center, Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
From 1974 until mid-1987, the magazine was called Field Artillery Journal.

In 1901, the Artillery was divided into Coast and Field Artillery and the branch insignia was modified by the addition of a plain scarlet oval at the intersection of the cannons.
Artillery assigned to infantry support was called mounted artillery, a misnomer since all the cannoneers marched on foot.
During the Civil War, artillery had to adjust to a new role as long-distance support for the infantry or cavalry, a task that was facilitated in part by the application of rifling to cannons.

Every Field Artillery battalion commander pounds into the heads of his battery commanders, fire support officers and soldiers that the only reason we exist is to support the maneuver fight.
Claiming that artillery battalions are fighting their own battles and suggesting that there is a broad sweeping disconnect in the maneuver-fire support relationship in the Army is shortsighted and is something that can probably be addressed on a unit-to-unit basis.

The battalion 120mm mortar section and two 105mm howitzers were tasked to neutralize the enemy armor and artillery.
The mounted rifle companies were tasked to provide route security, security of the firing elements at the firing points, quick reaction force (QRF) duties, and to emplace accurate fires onto the enemy using their vehicle-mounted 50-caliber machine guns and Mk-19 grenade launchers.

Anthony Verpogia, commander of the 2nd Battalion, 116th Field Artillery, presented the award to C Battery Commander Capt. Henry Lefebre and his staff on March 9 in Winter Haven.
The winner of the Hamilton Award was B Battery, 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery Regiment from the South Dakota Army National Guard.

The spokesman referred reporters to an article in the March-April 2005 edition of the Army's Field Artillery magazine, an official publication, in which veterans of the Fallujah fight spelled out their use of white phosphorous and other weapons.
Venable said white phosphorous shells are a standard weapon used by field artillery units and are not banned by any international weapons convention to which the U.S. is a signatory.
White phosphorous is a colorless-to-yellow translucent wax-like substance with a pungent, garlic-like smell.

Pentagon and military officials told CNN that white phosphorus was used in Falluja as a smoke screen to hide advancing U.S. troops as well as to target insurgents in trenches and "spider holes."
In an article in the March-April issue of Field Artillery magazine, soldiers said the white phosphorus was used to flush out insurgents so U.S. forces could target them with high explosives.
Pentagon officials said white phosphorous is a conventional weapon and is used for several purposes -- from creating smoke screens to marking targets -- and that it can be used against enemy combatants.
