Magdalena is one of the municipalities that availed of a World Bank loan under the Local Government Unit Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Project (LUWSSP).
On July 27, 1953, the municipal governments of Liliw and Magdalena forged an agreement allowing the residents of Magdalena to use water from the Sungi Spring in Barangay Oples in Liliw.
Aside from Magdalena, some of the areas covered by the first phase of the LUWSSP are Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Maliig, Quezon, and San Mateo in Aurora; Ta-buk in Kalinga Apayao; Batarasa, Magsaysay, and Cuyo in Palawan; and Padre Burgos and Buenavista in Quezon.

The grays are closer to shore here than at Laguna Ojo de Libre to the north or Bahia de Magdelena to the south and seem to exhibit friendlier behavior here than at other calving lagoons.

MAGDALENA, Laguna -- Around a hundred relatives and friends of slain New People's Army leader Raul "Ka Jonas" Masongsong joined the funeral march on Tuesday in his hometown.
Masongsong was killed in an encounter between NPA rebels and government troops in General Nakar town in Quezon on June 28.
Farmers from Laguna and Quezon also gave tribute to Masongsong who, they said, taught them how to protect and uphold the rights of farmers to their land.

The adult gray whale (eschrichtius robustus), a medium-sized baleen cetacean with a mottled, shoe-leather gray appearance, ranges from thirty-nine-and-a-half to forty-six feet from nose to fluke-tips, that is, the length of a four-story building laid on its side, and may weigh anywhere from fifteen to thirty tons.
Their three main calving grounds are Bahía Magdalena, Laguna San Ignacio, and Laguna Ojo de Liebre (Scammon's Lagoon); of the three, Laguna San Ignacio is the true mecca for the modern whale watcher, because there the gray whales will swim right up to the skiffs, and allow the whale watchers to touch them.
The sky had paled and was nearly white at the horizon, but Laguna San Ignacio was so blue it looked like one great brushstroke of Joan Miró cerulean.
