George, Duke of Saxony - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George the Bearded, Duke of Saxony (27 August 1471 - 17 April 1539), was duke of Saxony from 1500 to 1539.
His father was Albert the Brave of Saxony, founder of the Albertine line of the Wettin family, still the ruling line of Saxony, his mother was Sidonia, daughter of George of Podebrady, King of Bohemia.
Consequently Heinrich, who was of a rather inert disposition, relinquished his claims to the governorship, and in 1505 an agreement was made between the brothers by which Friesland was transferred to George, while Heinrich received an annuity and the districts of Freiberg and Wolkenstein.

Even after 1871 Saxony and Saxons retained a strong sense of regional identity that was not easily compatible with the rise of German nationalism.
The integration of Saxony into Germany was not an easy or straightforward process; but the crystallization of lines of political conflict facilitated the rise of national orientations and sentiments.
In his paper on the cooperative movement in Saxony, Brett Fairbairn (University of Saskatchewan) emphasized the connections between local efforts to organize cooperative ventures and regional and national movements pursuing the same goals on a broader scale.

Dresden, Germany: The Capital Of Saxony ~ by Jörg M. Unger
The advantage of Dresden’s historic center is that all the well-known and famous buildings and squares are in walking distance, thus giving you plenty of time to visit the places of your personal interest.
It became the residence of the Albertiner dukes and kings in the 15th century and the capital of Saxony in 1547.
If you cross the theater square, you will pass the equestrian statue of King Johann of Saxony to the right and go on through the arches of Zwinger, which certainly is Dresden’s most well-known and magnificent baroque building.

Concerned about noise and traffic, neighbors have objected to earlier proposals for public works sites, and on Saxony Road, where the facility would be built on land occupied by greenhouses and a flower field, the same objections already have surfaced.
Back on Saxony Road, on Paul Ecke Ranch, a separate proposal would bring 201 dwellings to 38 acres of the nursery, just north of the planned park and public works yard.

 Anna Magdalena as Copyist
Her most frequent task was to copy the violin doublets (I assume here, that she would copy this not from the score, but rather from the 1st copy of the violin parts already completed by other copyists.
Perhaps Bach called upon her late in the day while he was correcting the parts copied by others, and when he had completed doing this with the 1st and 2nd violin parts, he would then ask her to make a 2nd copy of an already existing, edited part.
I am convinced that Anna Magdalena does not deserve to be posthumously labelled as a sloppy, unreliable copyist of her husbands work.

In 1518, the twenty-one-year-old Melanchthon was recommended by Johannes Reuchlin to Elector Frederick the Wise of Saxony for the new chair of Greek literature at the elector's Wittenberg University (founded in 1502).
At first it was the elector of Saxony, Luther's prince, Fredrick the Wise, who requested that the Wittenberg theologians write a statement of what the churches of his land believed and practiced.
