	Mage (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Mage is a superhero comic book written and illustrated by Matt Wagner.
		This was a Grendel story that led directly into the Grendel comic series penned by Wagner, and drawn by a series of different artists, changing as each arc of the story changed.
		Each hero he encounters is based on a genuine mythological character (Kirby as Hercules, Joe as Coyote) and comics professionals Wagner has collaborated with (Kirby as Bernie Mireault, Joe as Joe Matt).

	Camelot 3000 and Beyond: An Annotated Listing of Arthurian Comic Books Published in the United States 1980-1998
		In 1988, Excalibur was drawn again, when Marvel Comics released Excalibur Special Edition, 1987 in bookshelf format with a story entitled "The Sword is Drawn." Created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Alan Davis, the characters in Excalibur draw upon their shared experience as X-men and on the traditions of the Arthurian legend.
		Despite the collaborative nature of the comic book genre, I have chosen not to include any additional credits (such as artist, inker, colorist, or letterer) in order to include the largest number of entries.
		As I discovered, most Arthurian enthusiasts are aware of DC Comics' maxi-series, or the trade paperback, of Camelot 3000 by Mike W. Barr and Brian Bolland, and Matt Wagner's MAGE: The Hero Discovered but other than that, the remainder of the Arthurian themed comic books have been largely neglected in the scholarly literature.

		It used to be said that the audience for comic books would turn over every four years.
		I guess it's a chicken-and-egg thing whether the rise in comic shops, intelligent content and better production values made people stick around longer, or whether that was the result of fans sticking around.
		The comic was delivered on Wagner's schedule, done in a way that was satisfactory to him, and if the comic were to miss a deadline, it was assumed to be part of the cost of doing business.

		Mage Knight expansions involved the addition of cavalry, vehicles and different warring factions, but each new item represented an elaboration on the same game.
		Mage Knight Dungeons is an interesting departure since this expansion also introduces a new game.

		This is too bad because a big part of the appeal of the original Mage comics was the unique airbrush coloring by Matt Wagner.
		From its somewhat clumsy beginnings to its amazing conclusion, Mage is a loveable shaggy dog of a story that has earned its place in the pantheon of great tales.
		I bought it because on the back Kevin Smith calls it one of the three best comic stories ever, and considering he owns a comic shop, has written comics himself, and overall seems pretty intelligent, I figured this book must be pretty darn good.

		Mage will be produced by Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie, along with Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum.
		Set in modern-day America, Mage is the story of average guy Kevin Matchstick, who learns he is the reincarnation of King Arthur.
		The Mage saga was originally envisioned by Wagner as a trilogy and the segment the movie covers is technically entitled Mage: The Hero Discovered, because it deconstructs the classic story of the development of a hero, though in Kevin's case, he's a rather reluctant, disbelieving hero.

	Walking Mage
		This is the last episode of the first volume of the Walking Mage.
		I was recently warned by higher ups in the know that The Walking Mage is a "Bad Idea"; specifically, when fascist regimes finally cross the line and start making their most belligerent power grabs, it is the writers and intelligentsia who are often among the first to be collected.
		Thus, the current Walking Mage story-arc where I'm am merrily lampooning the Bush Reich will be wrapping in another four episodes.
