Susan Sullivan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Susan Michaelin Sullivan (born November 18, 1942 in New York City) is an American actress, most known for her role as Maggie Gioberti Channing on the 1980s night-time soap opera, Falcon Crest.
When Sullivan wished to leave the show, the writers of the series had her exit in dramatic fashion, with Maggie drowning at the bottom of the family pool, the result of her wedding ring being caught in the pool drain after she tried to fish her son's toys out.
Taking over the role from Judith Barcroft, Sullivan played the role from 1971 to 1976, and it was this role that first established her as a household name.

Robert Sheppard: Elsewhere and Everywhere..other new (British) poetries
By contrast work by Maggie O'Sullivan herself, upon which I wish to concentrate as the most interesting writing by a British woman in the book, can baffle or delight, baffle and delight, particularly in performance, where the constant stream of words is delivered with a careful attention to its rhythmic weight, to its alliterative connections.
O'Sullivan points out, perhaps a little too stridently, that 'Excluded from "women's canons", such work does, however, connect up with linguistically innovative work by men who have themselves also transcended the agenda-based and cliché-ridden rallying positions of mainstream poetry', (O'Sullivan:9) work featured in Conductors of Chaos and other anthologies listed below.
The book features a large selection of North American poetry, mostly so-called 'language' poetry, a movement whose formalism consists of using disruptive techniques and exploiting the mechanisms of reference in ordinary language to generate estranged discourses that, in Barthesian terms, are essentially writerly, that re-orders discourses and the world that discourse constructs.

 Essgee's version of HMS Pinafore
Pinafore mania swept London, with most people delighting in Sullivan's jaunty airs and Gilbert's ribbing of class distinction, the navy and in particular of the First Lord (W.H. Smith) who rose to prominence despite the fact that the only ship he had ever sailed in was a junior partnership.
Australia's first authorised HMS Pinafore was under the banner of J.C.Williamson and premiered in Sydney at the Theatre Royal with the entrepreneur himself playing Sir Joseph and his wife, Maggie Moore, as Josephine.
All this should have been the happy ending that all but one of the Gilbert and Sullivan's operettas resolve in, but a squall arose in the form of D'Oyly Carte's greedy co-producers who decided to dump their partner and set up a pirate production of the newly-rescued hit at the not inappropriately named Aquarium Theatre.
