Magnet wire is also used in transformers for power generation by power utilities and for power conversion and electrical controls in industrial applications.
Magnet wire is enamel coated copper or aluminum wire that is wound into coils and used in electrical motors, controls, switches and other electronic devices.
These products include inverter duty magnet wire for use by OEM motor manufacturers where high voltage spikes are encountered and wire with additional abrasion resistance and thermal protection for use in severe motor/generator winding applications and for form wound coils made with rectangular cross section wire.

In 1977 Alvin Lucier produced of a piece of experimental music entitled 'Music On A Long Thin Wire' that was made by feeding simple tones into an 80-foot length of wire that passed between the poles of a huge magnet.
A current flowing in a wire under the influence of a magnetic field will move - if the current is generated by an audio signal, then the wire will vibrate in time with the music and you can hear the note.
This time around I did locate a source of nichrome (Constantine) resistance wire, but at 4ohms/meter this would have been too high a resistance to work and was almost ready to use copper wire again when I remembered that stainless steel wire for bead-work could be obtained from craft shops.

 APPENDIX Page 1
It will be seen that there are two electromagnets, one of which, TM, is known as the "type-magnet," and the other, PM, as the "press-magnet," the former having to do with the operation of the type- wheels, and the latter with the pressing of the paper tape against them.
As will be seen from the diagram, the armature, A, of the type-magnet has an extension arm, on the end of which is an escapement engaging with a toothed wheel placed at the extremity of the shaft carrying the type-wheels.
Later on, however, he changed over to a two-wire circuit, such as shown in Fig.

 Permanent Magnet Motors
In a Permanent Magnet motor a coil of wire (called the armature) is arranged in the magnetic field of a permanent magnet in such a way that it rotates when a current is passed through it.
Now, when a coil of wire is moving in a magnetic field a voltage is induced in the coil - so the current (which is caused by applying a voltage to the coil) causes the armature to rotate and so generate a voltage.
If the shunt wound field is permanently energised, it behaves just like a permanent magnet and there is then very little difference between a shunt-wound and a permanent magnet.

 Magnet Information
An electromagnet is a magnet with magnetic force that is generated by passing an electrical current through a copper wire when the wire is wound into a coil.
The grade of a magnet (N35, N38, N40, N45, etc) is important because it specifies the quality of material used to construct the magnet.
Magnetic fields are moving electrical charges that attract and repel one another.

The spinning magnet was positioned so that its north and south poles passed by a piece of iron wrapped with wire.
Pixii found that the spinning magnet produced a pulse of current in the wire each time a pole passed the coil.
It is important to understand that the generator creates an electric current, but does not create electric charge, which is already present in the conductive wire of its windings.

However, the kind of results typified by Figure 8 indicate that network traffic demands of applications are not accurately reflected by traffic on the network wire (since the traffic pattern has already been modified by the current network protocol).
Hence, while current network models may accurately reflect current network-wire traffic, they are not useful in optimizing application communications.
Thus, MAGNeT provides network researchers and developers with a better understanding of applications' actual communication needs.
