  Physics Demonstrations - Magnetism
The reason the ball is ejected is that the magnetic field decreases radially outward from the axis, and thus the ball rests in a magnetic well for motion along the axis, but it rests unstably at the top of a magnetic hill for motion perpendicular to the axis.

Magnetic Island News - Magnetic Island, North Queensland, Australia
Expectant mothers on Magnetic Island are being advised that the Magnetic Island Health Service Centre (the Clinic as it is known) does not provide a routine birthing service and that expectant mothers should not plan to have their babies at the clinic.
Mr Hill said that emergency deliveries can be performed at the clinic, however the optimum for mother and baby is that they are near to all the medical resources available, for example an operating theatre and pediatricians, to maximise the best possible outcomes for both mother and child.
Mr Hill went on to say that mothers who present at the clinic in the first signs of labour are, in most circumstances, transferred to the hospitals in Townsville via ferry or Queensland Ambulance chopper.

Magnetic Mountains; Short Communications (Skeptical Inquirer May 2002)
Magnetic mountains are geological structures with some slope (strictly speaking, a slope-or a height-not necessarily counting for a mountain but for a hill) that allow every rolling or flowing object or substance to appear to roll or flow uphill.
A theory brought forward by a student was that a strong magnetic field might be the force that pushes the materials (usually cars of local tourists) uphill.
Such a strong magnetic field seems unlikely, and amongst the materials tested by us on the Los Baños hill were glass marbles of around 1 cm diameter, empty plastic bottles, and water that was poured out, all of them known to be not magnetic under normal conditions.

The local residents have finally had to admit that the hill is not really magnetic, but is actually a very convincing optical illusion produced by the local topography.
The fact that the car appears to roll up the hill is due to an optical illusion caused by the relative alignment of the embankment and the road.
It occurs when the true horizon is obscured by the surrounding hills and more distant hills in the direction of travel are rather lower than the nearer ones giving one the impression of approaching the summit of a pass.

Magnetic Hill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Magnetic Hill is an example of the gravity hill type of optical illusion created by rising and descending terrain.
Eventually with the rise in tourism after the Second World War, along with local highway construction which saw a “Mountain Road” bypass built further west from Magnetic Hill, the roughly 1 kilometre segment of gravel road became one of Moncton’s prime tourist attractions (along with the tidal bore on the Petitcodiac River).
To experience the “Magnetic Hill” today, drivers must pay a small fee to drive their cars to the end of the road (which has been preserved), where the cars are placed in neutral; the cars then begin to roll backwards, apparently uphill.

Tour guides may like to claim that the effect is a mystery or that it is due to magnetic or gravitational anomalies or even that it is a paranormal phenomenon that science cannot explain.
In fact magnetic anomalies are never that strong and are never the cause as is easily shown.

They claim that magnetic hills are, in fact, descending slopes that look like climbing slopes, but I beg to differ.

Gravity hill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A gravity hill (also known as a gravity road) is a place where the layout of the surrounding land produces the optical illusion that a very slight downhill slope appears to be an uphill slope.
The slope of a gravity hill is an optical illusion, and gravity has nothing to do with it.
However, as the names also suggest, these areas are typically found in hill country, suggesting to skeptics that the actual effect being experienced is optical illusion due to mildly sloped ground being interpreted by the eye as horizontal, particularly where no distant horizon is visible as a reference.
