COTABATO CITY, June 28 (PNA) - Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Arturo Lomibao rushed Monday to Magpet, North Cotabato after some 30 New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas ransacked Sunday the town’s police station and disarmed nine police officers on duty.
On June 26, joint elements of the NPA Committees 51 and 53 raided the Magpet police headquarters and spirited away 29 firearms taken from the policemen and the station’s armory.
Lomibao, for his part, said they are expecting the NPA raiders to use paths near the Cotabato — Davao highway as the forested sections of Magpet are treacherous, considering that the municipality is situated at the foot of Mt. Apo, the country’s highest peak at 10,700 feet above sea level.

"The top despotic bureaucrat of North Cotabato and his brother [Magpet mayor Efren Piñol] are understandably stunned because this is a strong slap on their faces," said Rigoberto Sanchez, spokesperson of the Merardo Arce Command of the NPA's Southern Mindanao Regional Operations Command.
Members of the regional police mobile force and troops from the 602nd Infantry Brigade have been mobilized to track down the suspects believed to be led by a certain Iloy of the NPA Front 51.

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- The municipal budget officer of the town of Magpet, North Cotabato was gunned down inside the compound of his residence here Friday night.
North Cotabato Gov. Emmanuel Piñol, for his part, said his investigation indicates the victim has had several death threats from still unidentified groups.
Although Marañon is working for Piñol's political opponent, the Pelonios of Magpet, the governor vowed to help facilitate the giving of justice to the family left by Marañon.

THE Tarsier found and sold by a native in Magpet, Cotabato last week died of hunger a few days after in the hands of its buyer.
According to reports, the Tarsier was found by a resident in Imamaling, Magpet.
He tried to sell it for P300 in the Magpet town hall but nobody wanted to buy at as it was expensive, a source said.

DAVAO CITY--Three vans full of suspected armed communist New People's Army (NPA) rebels raided the police station of Magpet, North Cotabato and seized several firearms from the station's armory on Sunday at about 6 pm.
Magpet Mayor Efren Piñol said the more than 20 suspects dressed in civilian clothing went to the police station to supposedly surrender a man, who was in handcuffs.
Police North Cotabato director Supt. Miguel Laurel said the suspects were able to snatch 30 guns.
