Mahasiddhas are a type of eccentric (One who practices yoga and has achieved a high level of spiritual insight) yogis or adepts important in (additional info and facts about Tantric Buddhism) Tantric Buddhism.
On of the most beloved Mahasiddha is Virupa, who may be taken as the patron saint of the (additional info and facts about Sakyapa) Sakyapa sect.

In the Mahasanghika-Mahayana tradition it was possible for the layman or the laywoman to be a full-fledged practitioner of the Buddha Dharma, and not just a second rate citizen of the Sangha in relation to the ordained clergy of the monks.
