Ramakrishna - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
However, the best known record of Sri Ramakrishna's teachings is the Bengali Kathamrita written by Sri Mahendranath Gupta (Sri M.).
A personal account of his life and teachings is recorded by his disciple, Mahendranath Gupta, simply known as "M", in Kathamrita.
The account makes us aware of Ramakrishna's distinctive conversational style, his profuse employment of metaphors and parables, his characteristic wit and his frequent use of Bangla dialect words and idioms.

Aware of the complexities of this situation, with the production of knowledge and the interests of capitalism coming together in a no doubt imperfect alliance, I was and remain sympathetic to such concerns.
Beginning with the assertion that the English translation (Nikhilananda’s The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna) of the central text of the tradition (Gupta's Kathamrita) bowdlerized and even completely omitted aspects of Ramakrishna's "secret talk," I proceeded in the body of the book to translate, interpret and contextualize in considerable detail these same secrets.

As you may already know, Mahendranath Gupta ("M"), one of Yogananda's first teachers, was also the author of "The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna.
This of course does not diminish the greatness of Yogananda as a Yogi.

MAHENDRANATH GUPTA, better known as "M," arrived at Dakshineswar in February 1882.
Since his biographer M generally visited the Master on weekends, the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna does not contain much mention of the future monastic disciples.
Notably, Ramakrishna's teachings are preserved in Mahendranath Gupta's five-volume Bengali classic The Nectar-Speech of the Twice-Blessed Ramakrishna, best known to English readers as Gospel of Ramakrishna, a remarkable text based on conversations with Ramakrishna from 1882 to 1886.

Sri Aurobindo. Letters on Yoga. 1-7 THE PURPOSE OF AVATARHOOD
That character of the manifestation appears very clearly from all the accounts about him and even, if what is related about the appearance of Krishna in him from time to time is accepted, these outbursts of the splendour of the Divine Being are among the most remarkable in the story of the Avatar.
As for Sri Ramakrishna, the manifestation in him was not so intense but more many-sided and fortunately there can be no doubt about the authenticity of the details of his talk and action since they have been recorded from day to day by so competent an observer as Mahendranath Gupta.
I would not care to enter into any comparison as between these two great spiritual personalities: both exercised an extraordinary influence and did something supreme in their own sphere.
